BRING BACK LICKS

Chapter 3   You write this one

1. Tell us YES or NO on Bringing back licks to DALLAS ISD,  then state your piece, and no books please!  ;-)

2. Remember, BringBackLicks is more about the THREAT of licks just like in Temple, Texas where VERY FEW licks were given yet disruption dropped dramatically.  If your kid's doing fine they'll NEVER get the paddle anyway, so no hate mail, profanity, threats and NO FAKE email addresses.

3. And at least read this site (including Author page).  Don't just look at the paddle picture and start swinging.  Also, Gilbert Leal would NOT be operating the paddle geeze!

Interesting article in the Dallas Morning News. I agree with reinstating the paddle, though as long as a parent signs a permission slip, maybe at the beginning of the school year. But yes, swift action needs to be done about the disrespective behavior of students in classroom.

My child attends a DISD, and I agree paddling needs to be brought back into the schools. My child gets into trouble by not listening, not following directions and there is not enough punishment for her at school and the behavior continues. When we hear the news after school and we are approaching her I can tell by the look on her face that is was not a good day as far as the behavior, because once she reaches us and we read the report, she knows that she will receive a paddling once we get home and she is worried all the way. I do believe if she knew that the school could do the same, changes would occur in her behavior.

Paddling should be an option in school. Without discipline, kids cannot learn.

I get sick to my stomach when I see people talking about paddling and corporal punishment as "the right way" to discipline a child! If a school district is concerned about kids misbehaving or even threatening teachers, then they should hire security guards spread through out the school to protect the teachers. Teachers are not trained to carry outcorporal punishment. They will induce psychological damage on a child not to mention physically hurt him. Don't forget special needs children who physically look normal but have behavioral issues to no fault of their own. Are you going to wack them silly in the name of discipline and undermine months or even years of training and efforts that his parents have undergone to educate their special need child? Even criminals who rape and murder do not get beaten up by police! Because if they did it would be police brutality. I am from a third world country and I am ashamed of people of the so called modern world, endorsing such barbaric behavior. I am ashamed of Gilbert Leal for proposing and supporting the idea of reinstating corporal punishment. NO ONE WOULD LAY A HAND ON MY CHILD. No way, no how!

Thank you so much S.C. Rose. I've always wanted to teach students about how to choose their behavior because God is watching them and us adults, but God, Jesus, and the bible, and the ten commandments are out the door. However, my senior english teacher in high school displayed a copy of the ten commandments in her classroom
